While Alfred disagrees with Bruce's decision to become The Batman once again he knows that Bruce has changed. Thanks to his relationship with Selina, and the birth of their daughter Helena he now has something to live for other than the future of Gotham, his family. He returns to Gotham when he believed Bruce had returned, though it had in fact been Tommy Elliot who had become the villian Hush posing as Bruce. With Elliot in Arkham and Bruce, Selina and their daughter deciding that their place was within Gotham City and Alfred decided to stay as well to aid in Bruce's new war on crime against the city to create a place where his daughter could be safe and happy in the future. Alfred, much to his delight is considered to be Helena's grandfather, and while that isnt the case through blood Bruce agrees that it is the case as he had been a father figure to him his entire life.

Tim was orphaned at the age of 13 when his father, Jack Drake, an archeologist was killed during when a chamber of an archelogical dig collapsed on him. With no other family able to take him in he was placed in the Gotham City Boys Orphanage. It was there that he met and befriended John Blake, and the two quickly developed a sort of brotherly bond. At the age of sixteen, now living in Wayne Manor with the rest of the boys of the Orphanage Tim was kicked out when Tommy Elliot, posing as Bruce Wayne took back Wayne Manor claiming it for himself. This caused the return of Bruce, Selina, and their daughter Helena to Gotham and Bruce taking back his family home. With the Waynes now once again residing within Wayne Manor, and the Boys home also calling it home Bruce decided to have a seperate home for the boys to be built on the grounds of Wayne Manor, though allowing the boys to still have access to the Manor. Bruce, who saw something in Tim, and out of respect decided to adopt Tim, though he would act as a surogate father/ brother figure to most of the boys Tim is the only boy to be adopted by Bruce. One night while he was looking for Blake, who also resides within the Manor, he follows him into the study and discovers him entering the cave and follows him. He pleads with Blake to allow him to help, and soon Blake relents and speaks to Bruce on the matter who agrees, though sets the condition that Tim is not allowed to go out into Gotham until he has been trained and he believes he is ready. Tim takes the name Robin, out of respect for his friend and brother Robin John Blake

Because he left Bruce during the film because he was becoming Batman again.

Barbara Gordon is the daughter of Jim Gordon and his ex wife Barbara Gordon. At the age of 17 she ran away from her mothers home in Chicago back to Gotham live with her father, claiming that she couldn't live with her anymore though Jim believes that she has not told him the entire truth. Jim who at the time was dating, and planning on proposing to his girlfriend Sarah Essex, a detective at the GCPD, welcomed her back with open arms as his wife had not allowed him much contact with her or her brother. Barbara took a job at the Gotham City Library at day, and by night she joined a karate school at the urging of her father. Ever since she, her mother, and brother were saved by Batman from Harvey Dent she has idolized the man, going so far as to put a mask on and attempted to stop a robbery attempt at a party being thrown by Bruce Wayne that her father brought her to. Batman and Nightwing intervened. The next day as she entered her room she found a wrapped box on her bed with a note that said if she wanted to continue she needed a proper suit and training. When she opened the box she found a armored Bat Suit as well as a series of coordinates as well as a day and time to meet. It was Blake that jokingly called her Batgirl and she liked the name, deciding to take it for her own.

After the events of the The Dark Knight Rises Jim has retired from the role of the Gotham City Police Commissioner after the city learns the truth of Harvey Dent, Micheal Akins taking his place. Before he retired he had begun a relationship with Detective Sarah Essen and the two soon became engaged. Sarah, knowing Jim to be a good and honest man knew that there was more to what happened the night Dent died. She knew that there had to be a bigger reason for Jim to praise a man that had kidnapped his family, though has not questioned him on his reason, knowing that he would tell her when he was ready. With the return of Batman, and the emergance of more Super Villains emerging in Gotham Jim was forced to take back his role as the Police Commissioner after Akins was killed by the Black Mask. His first wife Barbara divorced him, upset for how he was portraying the Batman after he had saved her and their son and daughter from Harvey Dent. She moved back to Chicago and made it difficult for Jim to see his own children but three times a year. It wasnt until his daughter Barbara ran away from home that he could truly spend time with her. Jim knows that Bruce Wayne is the Batman, and that John Blake is Nightwing, however he is unware of his daughters role as Batgirl though he does have his suspicions.

Detective Harvey Bullock is the new head of the Major Crimes Unit of GCPD. He was once a dirty cop under Akins command, though turned over a new leaf when he was faced with a decision when the mob that was giving him bribe money by putting a hit on Jim Gordon when he retook the role of Police Commissioner. He chose to in from Gordon of the danger of the danger and ended up saving his life, since then the two have come to an understanding and trust one another. In order to attempt to lessen Harvey's hard gruff attittude he was partnered with Renee Montoya, though he still enjoys to play bad cop in most and any sitiuation. He is wary of and dislikes anyone in a mask, though grudgingly works along with the at times out of respect for Gordon.

Tommy Elliot was born to a wealthy Gotham family and was the childhood friend of Bruce Wayne before the death of his his father. The two had a falling out after Bruce's father failed to save father and had not seen each other since childhood. Elliot became a renowned Surgeon, and would use his skills to change his own appearance. Skilled at mimicking someone else's voice Elliot took on the appearance and role of Bruce Wayne after his apparent death, wishing to seek revenge on Bruce for the thwarted murder of his parents that he had attempted. He traveled to Gotham and took Bruce's place, throwing the children of the Thomas and Martha Wayne Home For Boys out of Wayne Manor. Blake as Nightwing attempted to stop Elliot when he figured out that he was not Bruce, though was unable to accomplish the task and called Bruce for help. Tommy welcomed Bruce back before escaping, mocking him that they would see each other again.

Oswald Cobblepot comes from one of the many old wealthy families of Gotham City, though he has no wealth of his own due to his parents losing their family money. He blames the people of Gotham, the Wayne's most of all for this, and has vowed to regain his families wealth and name, going to any length imaginable. He came to Gotham and built the Iceberg Lounge on money that he had stolen. While the Iceberg Lounge is a popular restaurant and bar to the public, it is actually a front for the sale of black market items and mob meeting grounds.

Lucius Fox remains the CEO of Wayne Enterprises, After the people of Gotham learn that Wayne Enterprises was helpful in the events that followed Banes reign of terror on the city the stocks in the company quickly rise, also earning back the money that Bruce had lost due to Banes attack on the Stock Exchange. Believing that Bruce would one day return Lucius continued creating things that he believed would aid in his fight, though for the time being John Blake is putting his creations to good use. Fox has since created a number of new Specialty cars, that he has since named the Batmobile, as well as a new high tech stealth boat.

Vicki Vale is a up and coming reporter for the Gotham Gazette. She made her break when she was the only reporter to get an interview with Bruce when he returned a married man with a daughter after he had been believed dead for a second time.

Killer Croc was originally an inmate at Arkham Asylum, who was born with a rare skin disorder that deformed him to look like a crocodile. He became an experiment subject for Jonathan Crane's Fear Aversion therapy program for his fear of bats. Croc grew up in Arkham Asylum and was released when Ras' al Ghul's ninja released him along with his inmates and the Scarecrow himself. Croc was one of the inmates to escape the incident in the narrows and joined a group of inmates that fled underground with the Scarecrow. There Scarecrow continued to experiment on Croc by injecting his Fear Toxin into parts of his body. Later, Croc went berserk around town, killing many people. At the time his teeth were infected with the Scarecrow's toxin, leaving those who were injured infected with the toxin.

Bane just barely survives his encounter with Catwoman, his chest armor bearing the brunt of the impact of her shot. Due to his belief that Batman had killed Talia Bane has sworn to break the him to the point where he can no longer walk and take from him what he was loves the most, his family.

What Bruce believed to be a hallucination while imprisioned, was in fact real. Ra's Al Ghul survived his encounter with Bruce on the train, through the use what few of his followers know about, the Lazarus Pit. Wishing to view the end of Gotham Ra's quietly made his way into the city, and while frustrated that Gotham still survived he felt pride in knowing that he had chosen the right man to succed him. Before leaving the city he replaced his daughters body in the GCPD's morgue with a double and brought her back to one of the many League of Shadows sanctuaries, with the plan on restoring her life.

A pyromaniac, Garfield Lynns began as a petty criminal but soon graduated to major crimes centering around arson, torching huge parts of Gotham in the process. But one of his fires soon raged out of control, leaving him scarred from one of his own blazes. He now wears a full-body, flame retardant suit when he's out pursuing his criminal interests between bouts of incarceration at Blackgate Prison.

Hoping to discourage Bruce, Ra's Al Ghul stole the body of Harvey Dent and placed him in a Lazarus Pit. Though while the pit is known for causing hysteria Harvey came out mad. Now he cant do anything without flipping his coin, his two personalities both battling for superiority over the other. Bruce hopes that he can find a way to restore that Harvey once was so that the man that Rachel died loving does is not lost to the darkness.

After his escape from Arkham Asylum Victor Zsasz went into hiding, only reemering when the urge to kill became too unbearable. He was the last man the Batman caught before his self imposed exile. Though he was broken out of Blackgate Prison by Bane and his men he has once again gone into hiding and has yet to be captured again.

After being captured for the third time Jonathan Crane once again broke free, in most part thanks to the new head of Arkham Asylum, Hugo Strange. He has since let go of his given name and has fully embraced his alter ego of the Scarecrow. Mostly impart of his many different versions of his fear toxin he has lost the ability to feel fear. It is due to this that he now seeks many different ways to have the Batman hunt him, as he is the only one that can make him feel fear once again.

Well there's this theory that I read on the Superherohype forum about who John Blake might actually be and I really liked it so I've decided to use it. The theory was that when he was young Dick Grayson, a member of the Flying Graysons with his parents in Haleys Circus witnessed the death of his mother and father. Later that night he, as he sat outside Haleys office in a daze he overheard Haley arguing with a man by the name of Tony Zuco. Apparently Haley, and by extension the circus owed the mob a big debt, and Tony was the man sent to collect on it. Earlier that night Haley had refused to pay, saying that he didnt have the money. Zuco as a result had tampered with the wiring for the Graysons performance and had paid off a safety man to take the safety net down causing Dicks parents to fall to their deaths. Zuco had then gone to Haley and told him that with two less mouths to feed he could give him their share. Dick went to the police and told him what he had overheard and they placed him into Witness Protection when Tony Zuco had threatened Dicks life. Dick was sent to Gotham where he was given the new name Robin John Blake, though he preferred to go just by John Blake as his mother use to call him her little Robin. He was told that his new life story was that he had lost his mother at a young age and couldn't remember how it happened, but that he had seen his father killed by a drunk driver. When the family that had taken him in could find no way of helping him he was placed in the Gotham City Home for Boys. When he was old enough he wanted to make a difference in the world and became a cop on the GCPD, never losing his path or his values.
One thing that was pointed out was his actually being a cop, something that Dick had become in the comics. Another was his penchant for the color blue in his clothing, much like what many of Dicks identities have had as their costumes color scheme.

Hugo Strange is the new head of Arkham Asylum. After the League of Shadows destroyed the updated Asylum Strange, argued to have the old Asylum updated when he was given the job. Wayne Enterprises backed the idea and helped by providing a number of security devices throughout the Asylum. Strange is obsessed with Batman, all he wants to do is know who the man behind the mask really is. He has even gone as far as to help inmates escape the Asylum in return for any information they give him on the Batman.

Slade Wilson is a top ranking man in the US Military, though he is also one of Ra's Al Ghuls greatest Assasins and students and goes is known as Deasthstoke to the members of the League of Shadows. In fact is considered to be in the top 3 Assaisians in the world. When Black Mask puts out a hit on the Bat Slade , as well as the two answer the call.
