Argosail's Gallery (Update 4/9): More 80's stuff!

My mission is to create micros of characters that haven't already been done, from fictional universes that haven't gotten a lot of attention. In some cases, I will re-do characters if one of their costumes hasn't been done, or if it simply hasn't been done well. However, it is unlikely that you will ever see me touch Marvel or DC superheroes. Also, I strive for accuracy in the details (at least, as long as the details are consistent).

Most of my micros start with pre-existing templates, and often incorporate small frankensteined pieces of other characters (although even these are usually modified). I'm not sure where all the pieces came from, but if you see anything you created, let me know, and I am more than happy to credit. That said, most of the work beyond the templates is original or very heavily modified, and anyone may feel free to modify my work. My works that are 100% original (no template used) include: Major Q9, Ne-Gok-Sa and the Marro creature template (except the arms), the Krugg head, and the metal "Kyrie" wings. Additionally, there are many original weapons, armor and clothing articles displayed here, so feel free to use them.

You have some nice micros, even though I don't know the universes they come from (only by name).

Thank you. I won't be terribly surprised if people aren't totally familiar with the characters I do, because I prefer doing the ones that are a little more obscure (but still awesome).

If you've never seen Robotech, it was one of the best 'toons of the 80's, with a surprisingly sophisticated story for a kid's show. It had romance, drama, apocalyptic action, and even a bit of comedy, without going into the goofy over-the-top stuff you see in a lot of today's anime imports. It was the first show I ever saw where the main characters could actually get killed.

Heroscape is a miniatures game with a devoted following that is set in an earth-like version of Valhalla, where the ultimate battle is waged with warriors from across time and space. If nothing else, it's a cool concept.

I know what Robotech is, I just never was interested in it. Especially since it's 3 different Japanese anime jumbled into one story.

As for Heroscape, thanks for the explanation on what it is, I really only knew the name for this one.

Ze Ball Breaker put up my micros YEARS ago. PLEASE redo the Cyclone bike micro. I've been waiting for someone to do a good one...mine is not so hot. The boots need to be bigger, etc.

Jorge, are those all your Robotech micros on Ze Ball Breaker? You were part of my inspiration. Notice that I didn't do any of the characters that you already covered. I wanted to fill out the ranks of the other generations a bit. If you did those Macross Pilots, I used your belts and color palette to maintain continuity.

Your Cyclone warrior is cool, but he does seem a bit scrawny. I might try working on him (I've thought about it), but it's a pretty daunting task. That armor has an imense amount of detail and there are no templates that can be used for any of it. I might just do the pilot armor, without the bike overlay. Omnis, if you're talking about the characters from "Shadow Chronicles" I've thought about doing those too, but part of the reason I went slap happy with the old series is because once I had the basic templates for their uniforms, they were easy to modify into different characters. Characters from Shadow Chronicles will require some very different templates. I'd also love to do the various mechs, but those would require a lot of time.

I will continue with Robotech (can't wait to see it in live action), but first I'm going to branch out into a few other universes, because I've got lots of colorful characters I'd like to build.

Spector, yeah, Heroscape is a lot of fun. Thematically, I like the historical units, like 4th Mass and the new Mohicans, but in terms of gameplay, I really love the Krav Agents and the new Sgt. Drake. They are well worth their cost.

I know what you mean. I enjoy the Greek and Samurai units a lot, as well as the Knights of Weston. I also have a great deal of fondness for the Aubrien Archers and the new Gladiators.

Wow!Really great Robotech & Heroscape micros

OK Jorge, I wasn't going to do it, but I just couldn't help myself. I'm still not entirely happy with some of the details and shading (because I am OC about detail), but I think it's an improvement from what we started with. I took some pieces of your original version and worked out from there. It still has the same color palette. It just needed to be a lot bulkier. So, Jorge, I completed your challenge. Now I challenge you to do an easy one: SDF-1 in battle configuration. Make it the biggest micro ever.



For the rest of you, this is the Cyclone armor from Robotech: Generation III or "Genesis Climber Mospeada."

Well, I saw someone else put up a teaser image, so I thought I would try it also. Games are fun. Can you guess who these characters are:



Hints:

1. They are from the same fictional universe. Two of them are partners.

2. They are relatively obscure, but they have all been seen on network TV in the United States (and I imagine the show has been seen in parts of Europe as well). 3 of the 4 characters have appeared in at least one new episode within the last 6 months. The last episode had the name of the hottest director in Hollywood in its credits.

I will reveal the answer on Friday.

Okay, well, here's Admiral Spaceship, Nitro, Dr. Scientist and the Laser Cat Queen from James Cameron's LASER CATS VI!!! For those who have never seen it, Laser Cats is an epic series of short films that appear on Saturday Night Live in which radiation from a nuclear war gives cats the ability to shoot lasers from their mouths. It's awesome!

A lot of you are probably too young to remember the Bionic Six, but it was another one of the best 'toons of the late 80's. Here is the family's pet robot gorilla, F.L.U.F.F.I. I figured of all the Bionic Six members, he was the most unique looking. I tried to scale him correctly. He was usually depicted as being taller than a human by a good two feet or so, and I seem to recall the "Rock-1" character could hang on his neck, with her arms reaching up, while he was crouched over. So, this should be about the right scale compared to an average size micro. Anyone else familiar with these characters want to try filling out the rest of the family?
