Well, here's the start of a new one. I may post up older micros here in coming posts (as I haven't really done much new stuff), but for now, here's a set of micros that I recently finished up and converted to .gif format. They've been sitting around for a while, so I figured I would get set on completing them.

They're of a character from a recent anime series that's currently airing in Japan called "Death Note". The show will make its US debut sometime later this year, though the first 9 volumes of the manga are currently out (of 12, plus a bonus 13th volume, which is basically a "data book" on the characters).

Misa Amane/"Kira#2":

(Episode#11, 12, in disguise and normal from 13, 14, 15, 18, and last two from 19)


These four outfits are from colorspreads in the manga and/or artbook scans. The second is also from the cover to DN volume four.

I wanted to see how many of her outfits I could do in micro format

Wow, a lot of replies so far. Let's see...I'm very glad to be back doing micros! I'll get to doing comics stuff again sometime (still have a few unfinished ones), but for this post, it's going to be "Death Note" some more.

Colorado Agent: Could you send me the pictures of the other characters you wanted again? I remember the request, but unfortunately not how the characters looked.

Mythu: Nice job! Thank you very much . Reminds me, I got to do some more YJ micros one day soon.

For the "Death Note" micros I'm posting today, I realized I missed a few of Misa's outfits so far. In episode 12, she was shown modeling a bunch of stuff, but there weren't very many good reference shots to get full designs off of. I've done one of the outfits, though:



I also did her outfit from episode 17 ("Execution"), and Misa (as played by Erika Toda) from the live-action Death Note movie, which was released in June of last year. She didn't play a very big part in it, as they saved her screentime for the sequel, which came out in November.



Lastly for the Misa micros (for now), this is from manga chapter 41, "Matsuda", which episode 19 of the anime series was based off of. While Misa wore an angel costume at the movie shoot in the anime version, she wore this outfit in the manga:


The other DN micros in this post are of two characters that will make their anime debut sometime soon. They're known as "Mello" and "Near", two gifted young people that are polar opposites, and at odds with each other in the job of catching and bringing down "Kira".

Mello:

The first is from chapter 59 (age 14), while the second and third are from chapter 60, which takes place 5 years after the first Death Note storyline (ch.1-58, with 59 being the lead-in to "Part 2"). The third and fourth are from chapters 64 and 69, respectively.

After setting off an explosion in chapter 74, Mello ends up scarred up and looking something like this:

Near:


While Mello changed quite a bit in the five years between chapters 59 and 60, Near stayed relatively the same, not growing much and always wearing the same white pajama-outfit. The second is from a few DN artbook pictures, where his outfit was colored light blue rather than white.

The original designs for Mello and Near (seen in the "How To Read" appendix of DN). Mello was initially going to be the younger, innocent-looking one, and Near was to be older and darker. Their personalities and looks got switched once they actually entered the storyline, though.

I thought I might want want some, descriptions, Cap's and Cap II's shield is a triangle, Cap II's hair is black, The Lark's shield is a bird, Colorado Agent's shield is a rectangle, Both Rockies and Agent's shield is the same design on both sides.

Well, time for a bit of a break from the DN micros. I've had some of THESE guys sitting around, waiting to be completed or worked on for a while. And others are completely new!

First off, the requests. Here are your heroes, ColoradoAgent! I hope they turned out well (Rockies was the hardest one to do, shield-wise) :


Captain Colorado I and II, Colorado Agent, Rockies, and Golden Lark I and II.

Some finished up Titans and co.:


Beast Boy, from 52 week 40. Sat the past few days in my backlog, but it was easy enough to complete him. He gets a LOT of costumes!


Offspring, from Teen Titans#38 and his 52-era appearances. Pretty easy to do, IMO. Though it's funny how in the script for TT#34, they refer to THIS Offspring as "Luke", but in his '52' appearance, he was called "Ernie", ala Kingdom Come. They changed his design to look like his KC counterpart, too.


Osiris, also newer. I had wanted to do one of him. I guess all that needs to be done out of the 52-era Titans is Young Frankenstein now?


An improved Miss Martian (just some recoloring and editing of my first one), more in line with her recent appearances.


And an improved Sun Girl recolor, which has sat around for a long time on my drive.


"new look" Jericho also sat around for a while. It's my first micro of him, though I'll try to do his old costume one day.


Joker's Daughter probably sat around the longest (since Tony Daniel's sketch of her got released) as I waited for an official colored reference picture for her.

Next post: Probably some more Death Note, or some other anime micros. Unfortunately, a few of my Sailor Moon manga micros vanished, so I guess I'll have to redo those ones sometime soon (I still have others, though!).

You gonna do the main characters from Deathnote?? That demon is so cool looking. It's great to see someone making Shonen Jump characters.

What are your favorite current jump series????
I love One Piece and am getting into Gintama.
I tried reading Bleach, but the art is a bit hard to follow sometimes.

Thank you so much all are great. My mother is going to make me a Golden Lark I outfit. I love the Micros a lot. (BTW I really hate to say this because I don't want to seem picky but the triangle point is supposed to be at the top where the snow is. I am sorry)

CA: Okay. I can redo those then, if you want. I'm glad I could help out though.

Digclaw: Yep, I'm going to do the main DN guys, though Ryuk (and other shinigami like Rem) might be rather tougher than I think. For Jump series overall, I think One Piece is pretty good, and Naruto's alright (the fillers in the anime, not so much ). I've seen the anime of Bleach, though I've only read a bit of the manga for it. I've also seen a bit of the Hikaru no Go anime.

In general, for anime micros in the past, I did a few Sailor Moon ones (of the Inner Soldiers, haven't gotten to dong the Outers or Chibimoon yet), a lot of Cutey Honey, some Voltron, quite a bit of Gatchaman/G-Force, a little bit of the original "Pretty Cure" series, and an obscure old anime called Voltes V. I might post some of those guys up soon.

Besides DN micros for this update, I also got myself an avatar (a new micro for a new year!).


Light Yagami, the lead of Death Note and owner of the book in question. The public and press only know of him as the mysterious "Kira", who has killed many by strange heart attacks (if the death isn't specified in the DN, the person that has their name written will just drop dead of a heart attack), though he has a way of doing 'manipulative' deaths as well. He's seventeen at the start of the series, and twenty-three towards the end.


L, the mysterious detective who plans to track down and capture Kira at any cost. Though he appears to be rather odd in appearance and mannerisms, he's rather intelligent and deductive (he isn't a detective for nothing, heh). According to the prequel novel "Another Note", he was found and adopted by Watari at age 8 and by the time he hit his '20s, had solved over 3,500 cases. Before the "Kira" case, he had worked on a case known as the "Los Angeles BB Case", where the killer ended up being a fellow orphan from his past, known as "B" (actual name: Beyond Birthday. Strange name, I know. The victims of BB in the novel have equally strange names, such as "Quarter Queen", "Backyard Bottomslash", and "Believe Bridesmaid").

The DN novel fleshes out the info about L and the Wammy's House (the orphanage he grew up at), as well as the characters of Naomi Misora, Mello, and Near. The novel is narrated at points by a "mysterious" acquaintance of L's from the past, known as Mihael Keehl ("Though I'm not called that anymore". There's significance to the name and the identity, but I won't spill that out). I hope the novel gets an international release.


L, from the live-action DN movie, where he was played by Kenichi Matsuyama. I'm going to do a Movie Light micro too, though I'm looking for a better reference image. I might do a micro of Light with the DN as well. We'll see...


Matt, the partner of Mello. He first appeared in chapter 83, and though an obscure character compared to the rest, he's got quite the cult fanbase it seems. Though he's not mentioned in the novel with Mello and Near, the data book "How To Read 13" revealed that he was also an orphan of the Wammy's House, and was third in line to succeed L in the event that anything happened to the other two boys.


A micro of Misa, using her "Eyes" from the end of episode 11. In the only colored pic the manga has of her using the "Eyes" (and it's an artbook one), they're yellow with red pupils, while the anime goes for the 'evil red' look.


Misa from manga chapter 45, and from episode 20 of the anime (which adapted chapters 44 and 45). When DN was originally printed in Shonen Jump, some pages were in color, which I found convenient when looking for a color reference for the manga outfit.


Light, L, and Misa, from the first DN opening. The first two have their hair and eyes colored red and blue respectively, for the 'opposites' look in it(though at episode 3, the opening was changed slightly so Light's eyes were completely black instead of red. The DVD uses this tweaked version). In the actual episodes, in certain 'dramatic' moments, the background will darken as their hair and eyes turn to the respective colors. Misa was only shown in one shot of the opening with blue hair and yellow eyes, though in episode 15 of the anime, she does appear in a brief 'dramatic' moment with light blue hair and red eyes (much like her "death eyes").

Mello and Near have made brief appearances in the new opening (which will likely change once they officially appear in the show), and their character designs seem to have been altered slightly. Mello's hair now seems to be lighter and longer (looking sort of like his post-explosion hair), and he has visibly green eyes, while Near looks paler and has yellow eyes. Mello's design also is tweaked to make him more androgynous-looking, as well. We'll see how they look when they actually arrive, though.
