Image Tools

What tools does everyone use?

I use Paint from windows XP and Paint.net. I went back and downloaded the old version of Paint to get the version I liked. I mostly work in Paint and use Paint.net for particularly hard shading and deleting the backgrounds.

In the past I've used Paint Shop Pro and I've used Photoshop but I felt kind of silly using such a huge tool for micros. Now I'm thinking about dabbling in pixel-art with map tiles and possibly sprite-work but when I've used Paint in the past they haven't really lived up to snuff.

So two part subject:

Its great. It has more zoom in and zoom out. Things are easier to do with this MS Paint, plus Windows 7 is the best Windows OS I've ever used.

I agree on Windows 7 being the best microsoft OS since XP


But I just can't stand Win7 Paint, I use XP Paint or CS5

You could always attain a copy through more seedy areas...just saying

MS paint is the best. Well for what we do. Photoshop was confusing an over kill on detail for little micro's. Seriously, it's waaaay to much detail for me.

He's actuay serious (at least on my watch). I also use and recommend Paint, I really think you don't need much more than that.

Nowadays I use Paint for microing and Photofiltre/Photoshop Online for effects/transparency.

PAINT (but not that shitty Windows7 paint i use an old xp version)

only for effects or transparency i use a photoshop clone called Gimp

GIMP was overkill for me, I used to use good ol' MSPaint, then my computer crashed, I got a laptop and it came with something way better. Something called mtPaint. It kicks so much backside, I'm never going back to MSPaint.

Looks like alot of members cant stand the windows 7 paint, im the same, since i bought my new laptop ive been stuck with this crap. Damn windows 7 paint

paint.net for what your paying for it, it is fantastic.

Paint for makin ordinary micros and Photoshop CS3 and CS5 if i just want to add effects to them, but that's very rare. (Yeah i kept the old version of Photoshop because it loads quicker if i want to get something finished quickly XD)

Really? I found that CS5 loads quicker for me. Interesting.

Yeah it usually ends up being unresponsive if i try opening another program too so if im doing a few things at once i go back to CS3 and if im just focusing on one thing ill use CS5

I wish I could upload it, I do larger, MUCH larger stuff then normal micros, to me I think it'd help....and now I'm rambling.

Ya know... it's odd, but I use the Windows 7 MSPaint and I'm not having any problems with it... It's a bit twitchy in places, but any program is that...

It still sucks balls. Maybe fewer, knowing someone like MrsGrizzely use's it without wantin' to chop her hand off and then throw the computer out the window. But still. xD

I disliked Windows 7 Paint when I first got it but it's really grown on me.
This topics made me wonder, what sort of setup do you use to micro.
For example, this is mine

As you can see all the tools I use are on the quick access bar, in the order most used by me. You can also see that I have half a screen for Paint and half for my ref.

Anyone else feel like showing us their method of madness?

I usually get references up on my laptop but do micros on the computer, because i prefer the paint on Vista. I don't mind windows 7 paint it just takes longer to make micros on it. XD
