Ens. Armstrong (USS Enterprise-D)

* Like TOS lookalikes Brent and Vinci, who both were played by the same actor, Armstrong and Ashmore also were played by the same actor, hence the resemblance.

Proving just how obsessed I am with the lower decks of Star Trek (as if you hadn't already figured that out).

These are recurring background characters who got their names in unique ways.


Lt. Diana Giddings (USS Enterprise-D)
Giddings appeared in approximately 46 TNG episodes. Her name was never spoken on-screen, but was on the door of her cabin in "The Outrageous Okona." Her first name is spelled "Dianna" in the Star Trek Encyclopedia, but that's not what it says on her door sign.


Ens. Fields (USS Enterprise)
Ens. Fields was seen in four first season TOS episodes ("Miri," "Balance of Terror," "Dagger of the Mind" and "Space Seed"). His name also wasn't spoken aloud, but is from the script of "Balance of Terror."


Crewman Garvey (USS Enterprise-D)
Garvey was in at least eight, maybe more, episodes of TNG. His name comes from the script and the actors' call sheet of "Bloodlines."


Ens. Youngblood (USS Enterprise-D)
According to James G. Becker, the actor who played the role in around 35 TNG episodes, his character was given this name behind-the-scenes by the cast and crew.


Ens. Tanner (Enterprise NX-01)
Tanner was mentioned by name but not seen in "Minefield" and "The Catwalk." Actor Evan English, who appeared in at least nine ENT episodes, says that while he was never addressed directly, the scripts of Enterprise and the official star trek magazine "Communicator" often referred to him as "Ensign Tanner."

You can also add one of my previous micros - Lt. Jae - to this list. Her name also never was spoken on-screen, but actress Tracee Lee Cocco, who played the part, says on her Web site that her character's name was Lt. Jae.

*NOTE: Credit where credit is due. I've recently learned that Power Ring 1 created the Xon head that ToonamiTOM used for his Defiant universe, so my thanks should go to PR1 instead for Xon's head and hair.
